Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: 2024 Tastes of the Smokies Fundraiser

Join us at the Heritage Center on Sunday, October 13 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for the 2024 Tastes of the Smokies fundraiser!

Celebrate the tastes of Smoky Mountain culture with regional food, music, and history at Tastes of the Smokies, an annual community event to support the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. At a leisurely pace, guests can see what's current, new, and on the drawing board at the Heritage Center. While mingling with living history demonstrators, attendees may meander through the galleries and Historic Village while they enjoy artfully prepared food and drink provided by respected local restaurants who are known for their quality regional Appalachian fare. Enjoy all of this while listening to Maryville's husband and wife duo Jasper Hollow, whose sound merges vocal harmony, stellar musicianship, and Americana-rooted songwriting.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Second Sunday Art Activity & Docent Tours

Second Sunday Art Activity; Free! Children in grades K-6 are invited to drop in between 1-4 p.m. for a hands-on art activity taught by a certified art teacher.

Second Sunday Docent Tour; Free! Join the KMA to learn from a trained docent about the KMA collection and exhibitions on view. The tour is 2-3 p.m.; arrive by 1:55 p.m. to join the tour.

Sam is offering his complete inventory of prints (both framed and unframed) with sale proceeds to go to the Friends of Seven Islands State Birding Park. His images will be offered with suggested minimum prices (generally $20 - $50) though no reasonable offer will be refused. His goal is the complete dispersal of his print inventory. Looking for a great way to kick off Spooky Season? Join us Sunday, October 13 for Costumes, Characters, and Cartoons! From 11am to 1pm, you can stop by the Theatre for cartoons and an open house with some of your favorite PBS characters! This free event features episodes of some of your favorite PBS Kids specials, celebrating STEAM. Plus, there will be costumed characters here for plenty of fun photo opportunities and a chance to show off your own costumes. The Theatre will be open to the public for self-guided tours during this time and popcorn and soda will be available for purchase. (The stage and dressing room areas will not be accessible as part of the tour.) Hope to see you there!

Relay Ridge: BIG PRINTS! Steamroller Printing Weekend

In collaboration with Knox Small Press Fest, 24 Knoxville artists have signed up to carve big woodblocks and print them with a steamroller! Come have a looksee at what it's like to print huge woodcuts outside with a great community of printmakers. Join Cattywampus Puppet Council and One World Circus/Dragonfly Aerial Arts Oct 11 & 13 for a spectacle of giant puppets, circus, theater, marching bands, and dancing on the side of buildings. Solastalgia tells a story of what’s happening in our lives, right here, right now. The journey moves from the World’s Fair Park Amphitheater, to the Festival Lawn, to the walls of The Tennessean Hotel in an exploration of grief, hope and connection in these times of escalating climate chaos and social/economic instability. Solastalgia ignites our collective imagination as we find ourselves and our communities at vital decision-making points that will impact generations to come.
