Live at Lucille’s brings the tradition of exciting and innovative PBS music programming right here to East Tennessee. Featuring acclaimed jazz artists performing in an intimate setting, these shows aretaped in front of a live audience at the new, state-of-the-art Regas Square Events space in downtown Knoxville. The shows are later broadcast on PBS stations across the state.

Drummer Jonathan Barber and his band Vision Ahead make a stop on their Southeastern tour to celebrate the release of their latest recording In Motion. The band includes pianist Taber Gable, guitarist Andrew Renfroe, bassist Matt Dwonszyk, and saxophonist Matt Knoegel.

The Knoxville Writers Guild is excited to welcome Terry Shaw and contributors of 24 Tales: More Appalachian Ghost Stories, Legends, and Mysteries for an evening of storytelling and discussion. The event will take place on October 3, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Emporium Center, located at 100 Gay Street, Knoxville, TN. This program is FREE to the public, though donations are encouraged, with raffle prizes available for participants.

Join us as Terry Shaw and selected authors from the anthology read chilling and captivating excerpts from their works. 24 Tales is a collection of ghost stories, legends, and mysteries from the heart of Appalachia, published by Howling Hills Publishing. In addition to the readings, Shaw will share insights on how writers can submit their work—whether short stories or book proposals—to Howling Hills, a publisher focusing on nonfiction and storytelling from the Greater Appalachian region.

Terry Shaw, co-founder of Howling Hills Publishing, is an award-winning journalist, novelist, and former president of the Knoxville Writers Guild. He will offer valuable tips on the submission process and share his journey in the publishing world.

This event is an excellent opportunity for writers, readers, and anyone interested in Appalachian folklore and the art of storytelling to connect with local talent and learn about opportunities to submit their work for publication.

“The Secrets of Backyard Birds,” A Virtual Program on October 3, sponsored by the UT Arboretum Society

The common birds in your backyard have their secrets. Chickadees have great memories, nuthatches can walk down the tree without falling, robins can locate worms crawling underground and all of them need to grow new feathers once or twice a year. How do they all do that? Join UT Arboretum education coordinator, Michelle Campanis, and naturalist/author, Stephen Lyn Bales, via Zoom for "The Secrets of Backyard Birds" on Thursday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. EST to learn more why these common birds aren’t so common. The October First Thursday Supper Club presentation is hosted by the UT Arboretum Society. The program is free, but registration is required to receive your Zoom link and the recording.
