Church Street United Methodist Church: Vox Luminis
Category: Free event and Music
900 Henley St, Knoxville, TN, United States, Tennessee 37902
Vox Luminis is a Belgian early music vocal ensemble created in 2004 by Artistic Director Lionel Meunier. The ensemble performs in Belgium, across Europe and around the world. Its unique sound appeals as much through the personality of each timbre as it does through the color and the uniformity of the voices. The size and composition of the group depends on the repertoire, and most of the singers are from the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. The repertoire is essentially Italian, English and German and spans from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
The concert at Church Street UMC on October 29 will feature works by Baroque German masters. Using Brahms’ A German Requiem from the Romantic period as a template, Meunier has assembled a collection of older settings of the requiem’s texts, rather than setting them in a more modern style. Thus, the program for the evening is “A German Baroque Requiem."

THE LAB THEATRE
College students come together for a DIY self-defense workshop after a sorority sister is assaulted. A sharp, witty, funny, and ferocious play that explores how “not to be a victim,” and how to use your body as a weapon. The classes become a channel for rage, trauma, confusion, anxiety and desire. The play explores the way sexual assault steals your sense of belonging, and how these women might get that back.
