Evelyn Miller Young Pianist Series presents Vivian Choi
Vivian Choi was born in Seoul, Korea. She began her extensive musical education at the Australian International Conservatorium of Music Preparatory School. She continued her training at Russia’s Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, graduating summa cum laude. Subsequently, she received her Masters of Music with Academic Honors and Graduate Diploma in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory.

Farragut Folklife Museum: Black History Month Event

The Farragut Folklife Museum will host a free event in honor of Black History Month on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Farragut Town Hall.
The theme for this year's celebration is "Building Communities Through Dedicated Service." The event will include a reception at 2 p.m. and a 3 p.m. presentation.
Tennessee State Representative Joe Armstrong will be the keynote speaker at the 3 p.m. presentation. During the reception, attendees will hear music by longtime Knoxville jazz legend and saxophone player Lance Owens and pianist Patricia Dulaney as well as view Black History Month displays.
Housed in the Farragut Town Hall located at 11408 Municipal Center Drive, the Museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offers free admission. Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore: “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Plantsâ€

The Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore is hosting a free lecture on Sunday, February 24th, 2013 with interpretive naturalist, storyteller, and wild crafter Ila Hatter and Avi Askey, owner of the Overhill Gardens. The lecture starts at 2:00 and will help kick off the 5th Annual TN Invasive Plants Awareness Week. The topic of the lecture will be “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Plantsâ€
Ila Hatter is an interpretive naturalist, artist, storyteller, and wild crafter with more than 30 years experience teaching the cultural heritage of native plants. Ila is publisher of "Roadside Rambles", a wild foods cookbook, and a video series: "wild Edibles and Medicinals of Southern Appalachia and Mountain Kitchen". She hosted three Folkways programs for PBS/UNC-TV, and has appeared on CNN, Turner/South, RFDTV, and A&E.
Also joining Ila Hatter will be Avi Askey of the Overhill Gardens who will be lecturing on the removal of invasive plants.

Clarence Brown Theatre: A Raisin in the Sun

The first play to portray African American characters, themes, and conflicts in a natural and realistic manner on Broadway, A Raisin in the Sun received the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play of the Year. Playwright Lorraine Hansberry was the youngest playwright, the fifth woman, and the first African American writer to win the award. Recently widowed, Lena Younger receives a life insurance check and plans to buy a house, freeing her family from the cramped tenement she shares with her two children, daughter-in-law and grandson in Chicago’s south side. Her son, Walter, has other ideas for the money. In the struggle that ensures one dream will be fulfilled, another deferred. Will the family collapse or will they seize this opportunity to create a better life?

The Inspiring Classic “A Raisin in the Sun†shines on the Clarence Brown Theatre Mainstage, February 21 - March 10.
The Clarence Brown Theatre will bring to life Lorraine Hansberry’s inspiring classic story about a working class African American family struggling to make it in 1950s America February 21 – March 10, 2013 on the main stage. Directed by African American theatre icon, Woodie King, Jr., the production will feature actors Lonette McKee and Jaymes Jorsling in the lead roles.
“A Raisin in the Sun†was nominated for four Tony awards when it opened on Broadway in 1959, and hailed by “The New York Times†as a show that “changed American theater forever.†It was the first time in history that a production had an all-black principal cast, a black director and a black playwright. Its 29-year-old author became the youngest American and the first black playwright to win the New York Drama Critics’ Best play of the Year award.

Fountain City Art Center Theme Exhibit "Reflection"

Fountain City Art Center is located in the old library building at 213 Hotel Avenue next to the Fountain City Park.
