Fountain City Art Center Theme Exhibit "Reflection"

The Fountain City Art Center’s theme exhibit, “Reflection,†will run from February 15 – March 28, 2013.
Fountain City Art Center is located in the old library building at 213 Hotel Avenue next to the Fountain City Park.
Public viewing hours are Tuesday and Thursday 9-5; Wednesday and Friday 10-5; and Saturdays 9-1.
Knoxvile Children's Theatre: Sleeping Beauty

Knoxville Children’s Theatre will present a live stage version of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty for children and families from February 15 to March 2. KCT’s version adheres to all the basic elements of the classic bedtime story: romance, intrigue, and ancient magic. But our new adaptation re-imagines various elements to include humor, suspense, and drama, all set amid the backdrop of the French Revolution. Dreams become reality in KCT’s Sleeping Beauty.
Reservations are strongly recommended for all CTK performances. TICKETS are $12 per person. CTK is continuing our special Adult & Child Combination rate for this production: If an adult and a child enter together, these two may be admitted for $10 each.
2013 Dogwood Arts House & Garden Show

Selected as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events for February 2013, the Dogwood Arts House and Garden Show, presented by the Knoxville News Sentinel, will feature more than 200 exhibits sure to spark the imaginations of home and garden enthusiasts. Attendees can lose themselves in the Grand Gardens, a showcase of more than 10,000 square feet of landscapes constructed by the region’s top designers, and find themselves inspired by interior designers showcasing innovations for the home. The Flower Markets will offer virtually everything colorful and green that can brighten a garden. Artists will have artwork on the show floor to bring personality to your home and garden. You can learn a little something culinary at the cooking school, go green at the Green Pavilion, and can even learn how to make your own topiary!
Celebrity speakers will be on-hand throughout the weekend on the How-To Entertainment Stage as they educate and entertain audiences. Among others, Matt Muenster, host of DIY Network’s Bath Crashers will present Bathroom Design for 2013 & Beyond!; Leigh Anne Lomax from Cheekwood Botanical Garden in Nashville will present Cheekwood’s Dynamic Dogwoods: Building an Exemplary Collection; and Alison Victoria, host of DIY Network’s Kitchen Crashers will present Alison’s Five Best Kitchen Tips.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (over 65), and $5 for youth (6-12 years old). Children under 5 are admitted free. Tickets purchased at any local ORNL Federal Credit Union will receive $1 off the ticket price from January 28 through February 14. All proceeds benefit Dogwood Arts.

Knoxville Museum of Art: Alive After Five

Alive After Five is a unique live music series presented on thirty or more Fridays per year in four seasonal series. The programs take place in the smoke-free, casually elegant setting of the Great Hall in the Knoxville Museum of Art. There is a live band on stage, seating at tables, two cash bars, food from area restaurants, free freshly popped popcorn, free parking, and a licensed therapeutic masseuse available. Audience members can enjoy listening to music, dancing, and browsing the museum’s art galleries.

Lift Every Voice, by Doug Floyd, is an original one-act presentation in drama, song, and dance. It tells the story and the influence of the Harlem Renaissance, highlighting important cultural, artistic, and political figures and events.
The play focuses on the contributions of several key figures in the Harlem Renaissance, such as W.E.B. DuBois, James Weldon Johnson, Louis Armstrong, Zora Neale Hurston, and others. It also puts into context the incredible influence of the Harlem Renaissance on people such as Elvis Presley, Spike Lee, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Adult tickets are $8, Student with ID and children's tickets are $5

(All ages) Join us every Friday in February for family fun with backyard birding. These programs will start at 4 p.m. every Friday, and will focus on identifying birds and learning how to attract them to your backyard. We'll spend most of our time outdoors, visiting the feeders around the park and taking some time to see who's visiting for a bite to eat! There is no fee for this program. Feel free to bring binoculars and field guides if you have them.

Pellissippi State Community College: Work by Artist Tom Lee

Although his home and studio are in Coldwater, Miss., artist Tom Lee is known throughout the South and across the nation for his “lessons of the truth of absurdity.†Pellissippi State Community College hosts a collection of Lee’s work at an exhibit scheduled Feb. 8-March 1.
“It’s What You Get….†kicks off on the 8th with an opening reception honoring the artist. Reception hours are 3-5 p.m. The reception and exhibit, both of which are free and open to the community, take place in the gallery of the Bagwell Center for Media and Art on the Hardin Valley Campus. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

American Museum of Science and Energy: Images by Marine Photographer Joe O'Donnell

February 1 - July 28 "JAPAN 1945: IMAGES BY U.S. MARINE PHOTOGRAPHER JOE O'DONNELL" is a traveling exhibition organized by the Tennessee State Museum that showcases 22 of the most compelling images to document the aftermath of U.S. bombing raids on the Japanese cities struck by the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Artifacts and explanatory panels complete the exhibition. AMSE Lobby.

Art Market Gallery: Works by Kory Kiker and Katie White

The Art Market Gallery of Knoxville will feature an exhibit of recent works by two artists recently juried into the gallery, Kory Kiker and Katie White.
A First Friday opening reception for the exhibit is planned for 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, with complimentary refreshments and live music: jazz, soul and fusion performed by saxophonist Marquis McGee.
