Knoxville Jazz Orchestra: Jazz is for Lovers

With vocalist Dee Daniels at the Bijou Theatre

Whether accompanying herself at the piano or fronting a trio, big band or symphony, Dee Daniels’ musical career is as varied as her four-octave vocal range is thrilling. She is a unique talent who transcends musical borders when she brings her jazz styling, infused with gospel and blues, to the stage. One critic says, “Daniels’ voice has a hypnotic quality, delivering an impressive range that gives the romantic songs and verse of 50 years ago new life and raw emotion.” In our humble opinion, the songs and verse this critic referred to stand as some of the greatest music ever written. And Dee Daniels has a library full of these songs with orchestrations by John Clayton, one of our favorite big band arrangers. It’s the perfect Valentine’s treat for your special someone.

5:30 p.m. Science Café: Neanderthal Dynamite
Over 60,000 years ago, the first modern humans encountered the stocky, powerfully build Neanderthals. So what happened? Did we make love or war? That question has tantalized generations of scholars and seized the popular imagination. Modern DNA evidence may hold the key to answering that question. Join us as we explore the prehistoric world of early man. Did we underestimate our mysterious, long-vanished human cousins? This program is FREE and open to the public. Please call (865) 577-4717, ext. 110 to register.
