The play will be performed Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM.

This
production brings this classic play to life on stage for teens to better understand and appreciate the writing of William Shakespeare. After all Shakespeare’s works were meant to be performed and not just read.

Adapted especially for middle and high school students and one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, Romeo and Juliet is the story of an age-old vendetta between two powerful families (the Montagues and the Capulets) that erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father’s choice, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the women arrange for the couple to marry the next day, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet’s own cousin, Tybalt, for which Romeo is banished.

The play is performed by twenty seven talented young actors from ages 10 to 17.

This show is directed by KCT Artistic Director Steve Sherman with student Assistant Director, Ava Bradshaw.

The Clarence Brown Theatre will open its 2022/2023 Season with Agatha Christie’s masterpiece, “Murder on the Orient Express,” running on the MainStage September 14th to October 2nd.

Behind the Scenes Sunday will take place following the Sunday, September 18 matinee. A Talk Back will take place Sunday, September 25 following the matinee. Deaf Night at the Theatre will take place Tuesday, September 27. The Open Captioned performance is Sunday, October 2 at 2:00 pm.

The production contains all the glamour, intrigue, and suspense of Christie’s novel, with a healthy dose of humor to quicken the pace. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of year, but by morning there is one less passenger. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed numerous times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer – before he or she can strike again.

On Nov. 14, 2022, ten talented senior adults will get the chance to shine as part of the 3rd Annual Seniors Got Talent, Knoxville variety show produced by the Morning Pointe Foundation in conjunction with Morning Pointe Senior Living at The Bijou Theatre.

Morning Pointe’s event seeks to showcase local senior talent and celebrate the young-at-heart. Auditions for Seniors Got Talent Franklin are happening now through Oct. 7 for in-person auditions or Oct. 14 for online auditions. Participants are not required to be Morning Pointe residents; anyone 62 years young or older may apply. Acts showcasing talents of all kinds are welcome but should not exceed three minutes in length. Ten seniors or acts (including groups) will ultimately be selected to perform in the big show.

Only one act will take home the grand prize of $500. Second- and third-place winners will also receive awards, and Morning Pointe is introducing a brand-new People’s Choice Award. Show attendees will be able to vote for their favorite act at $1 per vote, with funds going to the Morning Pointe Foundation.
Tickets for the grand finale will be $25 and will go on sale in mid- to late-October.

Sat Sep 10 – Nov 19, 10 AM – 1 PM: Occurring on nine Saturdays at Graystone Presbyterian Church, 139 Woodlawn Pike. $200 per student payable in advance. Need based scholarships are available. Led by world-renowned pianist Eric Reed, the workshop’s goal is to inspire, educate and enable the next generation of jazz musicians in East Tennessee by providing a hands-on learning environment focused on the fundamentals of jazz improvisation. Tri-Star Arts is pleased to announce the next exhibition in their main gallery and project space at the historic Candoro Marble Building. A solo show, Rag Arcana, featuring recent work by artist Eleanor Aldrich of Knoxville, Tennessee opens Friday, September 9, 2022 and will run through Saturday, November 5, 2022.

A public reception will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 5:00- 8:00 pm (artist in attendance). Aldrich will give an artist talk prior to the reception on Friday, November 4 at 3:30pm in the main gallery.

Eleanor Aldrich was born in Springerville, Arizona. A participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, she also holds an MFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She earned her BFA in Painting & Drawing through the Academie Minerva (Groningen, the Netherlands) and Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff. She was a participant in The Drawing Center’s first Open Sessions, and works in a long-distance collaboration ALDRICH+WEISSBERGER with the artist Barbara Weissberger.

Eleanor has had solo shows in Boston, Nashville, Knoxville, Flagstaff, AZ, the University of Alabama, and the University of North Georgia. Her work has been shown at Saltworks Gallery and Whitespace (Atlanta, GA), The Drawing Center (New York, NY), 1708 (Richmond, VA), the Charlotte Street Foundation (Kansas City, MO), Grin (Providence, RI), and Ortega y Gasset (New York, NY). She is currently represented by Channel To Channel in Chattanooga. She has been awarded an Endowment for the Arts through the Whiteman Foundation, and the Herman E. Spivey Fellowship, and has been an artist in residence at Anderson Ranch in Colorado. Her work has been included in New American Paintings, and reviewed in Art in America and on Artforum.com.

Additionally, a temporal painting installation and performance by artist Ada Friedman titled Path-work Play B. will be featured and on view in the Carriage House during the final 3 days of Rag Arcana with more information forthcoming.

Plein air and other paintings

Robert Felker was born in Knoxville and grew up in Nashville. He has a BFA in Media Arts from the School of Visual Arts, NYC where he studied painting and illustration. After several years as a freelance illustrator, he worked in graphic design for more than 25 years while continuing to paint and make collages. His Patron Saints of Rock series started as a labor of love and has evolved into a promising project with some commercial success. He also paints landscapes en plein air and in studio as well as public art, having painted the Cormac McCarthy Firefly Mural on Clinch Avenue, the Bijou Theatre’s 111th Anniversary Commemorative Mural and “East Tennessee Sunrise,” a mural collaboration with R.B. Morris, inspired by the poetry of President Jimmy Carter and located at the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity headquarters.

The 2022 AIR Biennial will showcase of the work of our past 4 Artists in Residence at the University of Tennessee School of Art: Heidi Howard, Esteban Cabeza de Baca, Zahar Vaks, and Curtis Talwst Santiago.

The Artist in Residence Program was initiated in 1982. Each semester an invited resident artist teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Painting + Drawing curriculum. The AIR program is highly successful in making a direct connection to the marketplace of ideas that surrounds art centers such as New York City, Chicago, and LA. The Artists in Residence invited to campus represent a spectrum of current sensibilities in painting and drawing.
