Jubilee Community Arts: Bryant & Brown

Old-time String Band
Bryant & Brown is an old-time band consisting of Mike Bryant, Paul Brown,Terri McMurray and Marcia Bryant. Mike and Marcia of Roane County, Tennessee are regular performers at the Laurel and have played old-time music since the late 1970s. Their longtime friends Paul and Terri, who live in Winston Salem, North Carolina, have also played for over 40 years, playing with and learning directly from folks including Tommy Jarrell and Benton Flippen. Individually, Mike and Paul are considered two of the most accomplished contemporary old-time musicians by their peers, each adapting the music to their own playing styles while maintaining the integrity of the musics tradition. Together they create an exceptionally fine traditional sound.

Harriman's 30th Annual Merry Tuba Christmas Concert

On Saturday, December 1, 2018 the melodious sounding tuba/euphonium choir under the direction of Sande MacMorran will perform carols and songs of Christmas. Tuba/sousaphone, euphonium/baritone players of all degrees of ability are invited to participate in this event.
This will take place at Harriman High School James M. Williamson auditorium in Harriman on December 1. Registration for participants is at 9:30 am, rehearsal at 10:00 am, and the free public concert is at 11:45 am. For more information, call Connie L. Sledzinski at 865-640-1384.
Smokyland Sound Chorus: Barbershop Style Christmas Concert

The Smokyland Sound Chorus and the Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church of KARNS are pleased to announce a Barbershop Style Christmas concert at the church on Saturday evening the 1st of December.
The headliner quartet for the concert will be the Rocky Toppers of the Knoxville metro area. They were "runners up" for championship quartet at the Dixie District competition this fall in Alabama. The concert will also feature the local chapter chorus as well as several of its internal quartets, including the crowd pleasing Three Nice Guys quartet, a new group called Old Fashioned, and the guys called Fourtuitous.
The event will start at 7:00 PM in the worship center of the church at 7753 Oak Ridge Hwy. A "love offering" will be taken during the concert to support the sponsors. Beck Cultural Exchange Center: The Legacy of the Black Medical Schools and Departments in the United States

Beck Cultural Exchange Center presents in partnership with Ross University School of Medicine a special presentation and exhibition, The Legacy of the Black Medical Schools and Departments in the United States, opening for one day only December 1, 2018 at 3:00pm.
The exhibition, curated by Anita Moncrease, M.D., M.P.H., Associate Professor, Wayne State University School of Medicine, tells the unique and untold story of the “Legacy of the Black Medical Schools and Departments in the United States” that does not begin in the United States; it begins in Africa over 3000 years ago. Stories of the 19 Black Medical Schools and Departments are presented in this exhibit. Beginning with the first, Howard University founded in 1868 and culminating with the newest one Morehouse School of Medicine in 1975. Four of the 19 Black medical schools and departments in the United States are open today. Two of the schools that are closed were located in Knoxville, the Knoxville College Medical School (1895 -1900) and Knoxville Medical College (1900-1910).

UT School of Music: Indiana University Bloomington Guitar Ensemble

Guest artist recital; The Jacobs Guitar Ensemble is from Indiana University Bloomington's Jacobs School of Music, and is directed by Daniel Duarte. The ensemble performs fundamental repertoire related to the classical guitar tradition and various other styles while featuring original works for guitar ensemble and arrangements that aim to expose students to practical elements of music performance that often appear in the guitar repertoire. The repertoire will present original compositions written for the group including "Shumba" for 12 guitars by UT's Jorge Variego. The ensemble's performance at UT is in collaboration with the Knoxville Guitar Society.

Gallery of Holiday Shops and Bake Sale is our annual fine art and craft sale now held in December. Gallery of Holiday Shops features handmade fine crafts such as jewelry of all descriptions, functional and fine craft ceramics, baskets, hand-forged ironwork, crocheted accessories, small quilted items, handcrafted wooden boxes, and a wonderful array of paintings and photography by regional artists.

Knoxville Children's Theatre: Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Knoxville Children’s Theatre, in partnership with Clayton Foundation, will present 16 live performances of “Best Christmas Pageant Ever,”
based on the classic novel by Barbara Robinson. In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids: probably the most inventively awful kids in history! You won't believe the mayhem - and the fun - when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on! This delightful comedy is adapted from the best-selling book and has become a holiday staple for theatre audiences everywhere, featuring lots of laughs for audiences of all ages.
The live stage musical will be performed:
Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1PM & 5 PM, Sundays at 3 PM
The play is performed by 22 talented young actors, from ages 9 to 16. Derrick Washington, Jr., a senior at STEM Academy will direct the
production. STEM Academy student Quintin Rhodes will serve as the Stage Manager.
TICKETS are $12 per Adult, $10 per child. Reservations are strongly recommended. Group rates are available for groups of 12 or more. To obtain a group rate, reservations must be placed by telephone.
