Blount Mansion: Citizenship Ceremony

Category: Festivals & special events, Free event and History & heritage

On September 17th, 1787, William Blount and 38 other men made history when they affixed their names to the United States Constitution, our nation's founding document. On September 17th, 2019, forty other individuals will make history in another sense when they raise their right hands to become new United States citizens.

At 10:00 that morning, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas A. Varlan will administer the oath of citizenship to forty new American citizens. The ceremony, which will take place beneath a tent in front of our Visitors Center, will include music by the Central High School "Bobcat Company" Choir and presentation of colors by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Color Guard. A light reception hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution will follow. Please note that our parking lot will be closed during the ceremony at the request of the Federal Court. Participants are requested to park in the Dwight Kessel Garage across Hill Avenue from Blount Mansion. This event is sponsored by the City of Knoxville's Office of Special Events.
