Knoxville Children’s Theatre will present a live stage adaptation of the beloved children’s novel Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. The play will be performed April 26 through May 12: Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM.

Little Women is one of the most widely read novels of all time and named one of the “Top 100 Books for Children” by the National Education Association. As another Christmas arrives with Mr. March still off at the war front, Mrs. March’s daughters are growing up to be strikingly different from each other. Jo is willful, impulsive, and temperamental, whereas Beth is humble and selfless. Meg does not see a future outside her hometown, whereas Amy dreams of Europe. Jo and Laurence are inseparable in their youth, but which of the “Little Women” will he marry? And if “Laurie” is too conventional for Jo, what kind of man will she ever end up with? Ripe with life lessons about the change from child into young adult, Little Women is a timeless American classic.

The play is performed by 14 talented young actors, from ages 12 to 17. The March sisters are portrayed by 4 veteran KCT performers: Brycen Ritchie plays Jo, Emma Stark plays Amy, and Beth is played by Maddy Grace Payne. Campbell Ella plays the oldest March sister Meg, while the sisters’ mother, Mrs. March, also known as Marme, is played by Kennis Van Dyke. The girls’ friend Laurence is played by Dale Gross. The play is directed by KCT student intern, Charlotte Stark. The production team includes 3 students from the L&N STEM Academy. KCT is east Tennessee’s leading producer of plays for children.

This annual theatrical event showcases new, unpublished works; directed, performed, and produced by local artists. For the last 8 years Tiger Lily Theatre has made it part of its mission to provide opportunities for new writers, performers, directors, technicians, and designers. This production offers a forum to explore and develop their craft further as well as encourage new and aspiring theatre artists. The result is a wildly diverse and engaging evening of live theatre that has become an audience favorite.

This dramatic adaptation of Homer's myth begins with a modern young woman who is struggling to understand Robert Fitzgerald's translation of The Odyssey. A classical muse appears, and the young woman becomes the goddess Athena--a tireless advocate for Odysseus in his struggle to get home. With her trademark irreverent and witty twist on classic works, Zim-merman brings to life the story of Odysseus's ten-year journey, depicting his encounters with characters such as Circe, the Cyclops, Poseidon, Calypso, the Sirens, and others.

East Tennessee PBS and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra are teaming up to create a new televised concert series called “Live at Lucille’s.” The shows will be taped in front of a live audience at East Tennessee PBS’ studios near downtown Knoxville, and will feature local, regional and national jazz artists. Broadcasts will occur on ETPBS later in 2019, and WUOT will broadcast audio from the segments. The series will be sold as a six concert package for $180 at www.knoxjazz.org. Tickets to single events may be made available at a later date depending on availability. Long time Knoxville residents may remember Lucille's Jazz Club in the Old City. The club was in operation throughout the 1990s and played host to local, regional and national talent. When the club closed in 2001, East Tennessee PBS production manager Chris Smith bought the neon sign that hung in the window at the business' estate sale. He also secured the rights to the name Live at Lucille's in hopes of one day being able to create something that built on that legacy. Series schedule and lineup:

Volapalooza is an annual concert coordinated by the Entertainment Committee of the Campus Events Board and the University of Tennessee. It is the largest, most successful student-run event on campus. It will be held this year on April 26, 2019—the last day of spring semester classes—to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of commencement ceremonies for graduating seniors. In part, Volapalooza’s success depends on the support we receive from local, regional, and national sponsors.

The audience typically consists of 18- to 24-year-old students and a wider general admission audience from the Knoxville community. Past performers have included Portugal. The Man, Moon Taxi, Niykee Heaton, Lupe Fiasco, Fitz and the Tantrums, Ziggy Marley, Big Gigantic, Three 6 Mafia, Girl Talk, Flogging Molly, Passion Pit, CAKE, and many more. Zoo Knoxville Announces New Event "Wild Vine"

Zoo Knoxville and Rhizome Productions will host the inaugural Wild Vine wine sampling event on Friday, April 26, 2019, from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m. at the zoo.

With more than 30 wineries from around the world participating, Wild Vine will feature over 70 carefully curated red, white, rosé and sparkling wines. Event-goers can also sample craft beer from five breweries and spirits from five distilleries as they take a liquid safari throughout the zoo. Animal encounters, live entertainment and local food trucks will create the most exotic wine-tasting event in Knoxville.

Tickets include a keepsake tasting glass for unlimited sample pours from participating wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Wild Vine is the sip of Spring with 100% of proceeds supporting the Zoo's conservation work that is saving animals from extinction.

Art à la Carte, the Art Center’s brown bag luncheon and learning series, meets the fourth Friday in each month at 12 noon. While programs in the series may include artist or gallery talks, primarily we use films. Films focus on art history, museum collections, interviews with and/or demonstrations by various artists, and the creative muse or spirit. Programs are free and open to the public.

In April, to coincide with our quilting exhibition, we will be showing, Lower
Town Paducah on the 26th. The Lower Town district in Paducah, Kentucky is a place
where artists from all over the country moved into beautiful old houses, revitalizing a
troubled neighborhood with the largest Artist Relocation Program ever. From an egg
carver, to a print maker, to a sculptural ceramicist, to an art quilt master, this
documentary combines artist profiles with interviews and archival photos to explore city
history and the tradition of quilting in America.

We try to begin the films promptly at noon. Please join us and bring a friend.
The Art Center will provide coffee and/or tea. Participants are encouraged to
bring their lunch and enjoy it while we learn.

Local songwriting

With a style best described as a mixture of folk and bluegrass, Jay Clark's lyrics run the gamut of hard living, hard drinking, civil disobedience, and old-time religion. As the son of a Cumberland Presbyterian minister from Winchester, Tennessee, Jay's devout religious upbringing is apparent in his songwriting. Jay will be joined by Greg Horne and Daniel Kimbro.
